MEATBOOK
This is a meatbook that I developed parallel to the performance ‘Eee’. I wanted to expand the notion of book and the material forms it normally takes but more importantly I wanted to find other modes in which I could materialise my research. It was framed as a performative action that documented my process in the studio and at the same time raised questions and interests around my curiosity of body, language and voice and its potentials. It took a whole day to cut, sew and stamp the meat. I chose a specific text from one of the works of Beckett, ‘Unnameable’ which talks explicitly about the position of the voice, in-between.
Instructions This book is written in homophones (two or more words that have the same pronunciation, but have a different meaning). To understand the text it must be realised through the voice. I invite you to speak it aloud. When you have read the text please take a pair of scissors and a plate and select a piece of the book. Take the book and place it on the BBQ outside, there is sauce and bread to accompany it. Text ann outside and ann inn side and mee inn the mid ill, purr haps thats whatt eye am, the thing that dee vides the whirled inn tu. |
